One Medium Suitcase - Due by Monday May 13

Title: One Medium Suitcase

Scenario:

You must pack your things and leave this place forever, never to return to your home, friends, and family. You have one hour to pack everything that you can into a medium sized suitcase before they come and take you away. There are some rules however, you cannot take anything electronic or technology driven. Where you are going there are no means to connect to internet much less power. What will you take with you?

Make a list of at least 10 things you would take with you and explain why you would take the item in at least two sentences. Remember that you must have room for everything so large items may not be as important as smaller things.

Suitcase size: 24 inches tall by 18 inches wide by 10 inches deep!

Get to filling! .

Yellow Star: Due Monday May 13

Title: Yellow Star

You have lived on this earth long enough to be able to recognize some of your most rewarding and beautiful experiences. In elementary school these experiences were rewarded with a “yellow star” sticker. Make a list of your ten most rewarding and beautiful experiences. Write a sentence explaining why each experience was special to you. When you are finished put them in ranked order starting with your most rewarding as number 1.

Check out mine below:

1. Coca-Cola Scholarship Trip – This weekend was the opportunity of a life time because I met so many wonderful people and got to see life outside of Pierce City when I traveled to Atlanta, Georgia all on my own.
2. Student Council Summer Leadership Camp – This is the most exciting week of the year for me even though now I am no longer a kid but an advisor to all the wonderful kids involved in MASC.
3. Attending the University of Arkansas – Though I didn’t want to go there initially I am forever grateful that my mom forced me to attend the U of A because I made the most amazing friends and made the most wonderful memories.

6. Buying a house – Buying a house is probably the biggest purchase I will every make in my life and it is also the first thing that Kyle and I bought together that was a major investment in our future.
7. Getting my drivers license – A driver’s license is like the first step to true adulthood it meant that I was able to go when I wanted and gave me new adventures to travel with friends.
8. Running a marathon – At the end of the race I felt a rush of energy and excitement because I had accomplished such a great feat and I can’t wait to do it again.

Personal Metaphors - Due Thursday May 9th

Title: Personal Metaphors

A metaphor is a comparison between two objects not using the words “like” or “as” to make that comparison. For this blog post you will be comparing yourself to different objects. You will be asking yourself, “If I were a/an __________________, what kind of __________________ would I be?” For each item listed below you must come up with your personal metaphor for the item. Your responses need to be realistic and honest. You must be able to explain your choices if asked about them. As an example, I wouldn’t say, “If I were a musical instrument I would be the drums.” I wouldn’t say this because I have no rhythm and drums are a rhythmic instrument.

Your statements should be formatted as follows:

If I were a __________________, I would be a _________________ because …… and finish the statement.

So, here is your list of items to make personal metaphors for:

1. Animal
2. Car
3. Article of Clothing
4. Day of the Week.
5. Food
6. Color
7. Movie
8. Fragrance
9. Type of Building
10. Plant
11. Musical Instrument
12. Geometric Shape
13. Piece of Furniture
14. Song
15. Appliance or Machinery
16. Television Character
17. Season of the Year
18. Natural Phenomenon
19. Cartoon or Comic Character
